Isaiah 53:12 KJV:
“and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."
This verse is a part of the prophecy about the Suffering Servant, referring to Jesus Christ. The phrase means that the servant (interpreted as the Messiah) would be counted or considered as one among sinners or criminals, even though he himself was innocent.
In the New Testament, this prophecy is referenced in Mark 15:28 and Luke 22:37, where it is fulfilled in the crucifixion of Jesus. He was crucified between two criminals, thus literally being "numbered with the transgressors." This emphasizes the idea that Jesus took upon himself the sins of humanity, even though he himself was without sin, and was treated as a criminal to fulfill the prophecy and bring salvation.
