John 1:22 KJV:
This phrase is found in the New Testament, referring to John the Baptist. It is a fulfillment of prophecy from the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament, written years prior.
“What safest thou of thyself? He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness. Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.”
John used this phrase to quote Isaiah 40:3, identifying himself as the messenger who was sent to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah. John was subsequently sent to prison and executed and there was a request to have John’s head on a platter thereafter.
